Women Essays - Gender Studies, Gender Role, Sexism, Gender

Ladies In Architecture Of what memorable and contemporary concern is it that the design calling has been, and keeps on being, emphatically male commanded in Australia (at present 90% of enlisted modelers in NSW are men). In a perfect world, what extent of the calling should ladies involve and why? From the beginning of mankind's history, we generally experience certain degree of imbalance between genders. It very well may be seen wherever around the globe and is a worry to everybody, both people. This imbalance is a significant issue inside the workforce of numerous callings, for example, being an engineer, scene modeler, city organizers what's more, planners inside the assembled condition. Mechanical upheaval is the beginning for ladies to get isolated from home, making more prominent spatial division to sway on sexual orientation jobs. There is normal idea between the relationship of open and private space with male and female as portrayed by Kate Lyons. Planners and other comparable expert fields have seen ladies not as calling yet as latent customers. From these, ladies are clients of the planned constructed condition as there are just not many to have the chance to structure them. This powers ladies to adjust to the manner in which situations have been planned (by men). There is where numerous ladies draftsmen, scene modelers, organizers, developers and architects, for example, Catharine Beecher, Louise Bethune. Eileen Gray, Julia Morgan, and others are not officially related to callings. A large number of their works have been credited to their male associates. Another worry is that there is an absence of affectability towards ladies' needs inside the fabricated condition. Structure techniques and plans regularly neglect to think about ladies as a detriment bunch with select necessities, huge numbers of these requirements are insufficiently met or even un-met. This was clear in a few Local Environmental Plans and Improvement Control Plans of the Sydney Metropolitan region that had not distinguished ladies as a detriment gathering to be incorporated among the incapacitated furthermore, older in configuration issue. Having considered ladies' issues inside the constructed condition, in closing one must solicit are the essentials from callings of the constructed condition sexual orientation one-sided? While the results of these are sexual orientation one-sided, the basics of arranging require resulting investigation so as to resolve the inquiry. ... not exclusively do people see a typical world from alternate points of view, they see various universes too. The issues raised are not liable to carefully to ladies, however men likewise experience them despite the fact that with less power. In tending to these issues a sexual orientation touchy condition will be valuable to all. Book index 1. Poor Reproductive Fitness of Sperm in Aging Males

Poor Reproductive Fitness of Sperm in Aging Males Crumbling of germline DNA found to deliver low quality posterity in matured male houbara bustards. An investigation in houbara bustards, an African flying creature species gives understanding on what's going on with maturing men. The researchers recommend that the decrease in bring forth achievement watched is brought about by senescent decay of both male and female gametes. Then again, the advancement of chicks inside the egg give off an impression of being impacted exclusively by maternal maturing which can be clarified by decrease in more seasoned females’ capacities to arrangement their eggs. The specialists at that point observed the managed impregnation of houbara bustards extending in age from 1 to 23, recorded the egg bring forth accomplishment just as the development of coming about chicks. Their outcomes found that eggs delivered from inseminating more established females with discharge from more seasoned guys have lower bring forth accomplishment when contrasted with eggs of guardians at top age. The researchers recommend that the diminishing in bring forth achievement watched is brought about by senescent decay of both male and female gametes. Of the eggs that hatched, it was found that the mass of chicks at bring forth were heaviest in chicks destined to youthful moms, proposing that the improvement of chicks inside the egg have all the earmarks of being affected exclusively by maternal maturing. This can be clarified by decrease in more established females’ capacities to arrangement their eggs. Also, it was discovered that chicks destined to youthful dads had the best by and large development inside the primary month of life than those destined to more seasoned dads. The purpose behind this is since guys just contribute their DNA to posterity, the development of the How Reproductively Fit is the Sperm of Older Males? An investigation in houbara bustards, an African feathered creature species gives knowledge on the creation of low quality posterity in maturing men. Gametes are regenerative cells, for example, ovum or sperm, containing the hereditary material required to frame another living being. This hereditary material is basic in deciding the nature of posterity delivered. As indicated by the paper by Brian Preston and his partners in Nature Communications, gametes from creatures of cutting edge years experience debasement by a procedure called senescence. Senescence is a continuous decrease of capacity and can happen by two instruments. The first is the decrease in the presentation of their spermatogenic hardware with the end goal that the sperm experiences issues in doing its capacity. The subsequent system includes the development of hereditary changes inside the germline of gametes, bringing about the debasement of the DNA conveyed inside. These systems lead to a decrease in both the reasonability and nature of posterity delivered. To decide if male maturing has effect on conceptive wellness, Brian Preston and his partners analyzed 10 years’ worth of information with respect to the post insemination achievement of male houbara bustards part of a hostage reproducing program. In the first place, female bustards were inseminated with discharges gathered from guys. The male and female bustards associated with this examination ran from 1 to 23 years old. Eggs created were gathered and the bring forth achievement recorded. The analysts found that eggs delivered from inseminating more established females with discharge from more established guys have lower bring forth accomplishment when contrasted with eggs of guardians at top age, proposing this is brought about by senescent decrease of both male and female gametes. Moreover, of the eggs that hatched, it was found that the mass of chicks at bring forth were heavier in chicks destined to youthful dads contrasted with more established dads. Furthermore, a proportion of by and large development inside the primary month of life indicated that chicks destined to old dads had the most exceedingly terrible in general development. The researchers contemplated that the reason for development designs saw in chicks destined to old dads affirms that the prevailing component of senescence in the feathered creature species is transformation based maturing of germline DNA. This is on the grounds that, since guys just contribute their DNA to posterity, the development of the chicks is repressed. Eggs created were gathered for brooding and brought forth chicks were hand-raised in order to keep away from any bewildering factors. The scientists checked the planned impregnation of houbara bustards extending from 1 to 23 years of age, recorded the egg bring forth accomplishment just as the development of coming about chicks. Their outcomes found that eggs delivered from inseminating more seasoned females with discharge from more seasoned guys have lower incubating accomplishment when contrasted with eggs of guardians at top age, recommending this is brought about by senescent decay of both male and female gametes. Of the eggs that hatched, it was found that the mass of chicks at bring forth were heaviest in chicks destined to youthful dads. Besides, it was discovered that chicks destined to old dads had the most exceedingly awful generally speaking development inside the main month of life than those destined to more youthful dads. The researchers recommend that the advancement of chicks inside the egg has all the earmarks of being impacted exclusively by maternal maturing. This can be clarified by decrease in more established females’ capacities to furnish their eggs with supplements. Then again, the scientists contemplated that the reason for development designs saw in chicks destined to old dads affirms that the prevailing instrument of senescence in the winged animal species is transformation based maturing of germline DNA. This is on the grounds that, since guys just contribute their DNA to posterity, the development of the chicks is hindered. As indicated by an ongoing report by Brian Preston and his associates in Nature Communications, gametes (ovum or sperm) from creatures of cutting edge years experience debasement by a procedure called senescence. Senescence is a progressive decay of capacity and happens by two instruments. The first includes the decrease of the spermatogenic apparatus execution while the subsequent component includes the development of hereditary changes inside the germline DNA of gametes. To decide if male maturing has impact on regenerative wellness, the analysts inspected 10 years’ worth of information on the post insemination accomplishment of male houbara bustards matured between 1 to 23 years that were a piece of a hostage rearing project. To start with, female bustards were inseminated with the male discharges gathered so gametes are the main affecting variable on posterity quality. The eggs delivered from more seasoned guardians apparently had lower bring forth achievement when contrasted with eggs of pinnacle age guardians. Of the eggs that hatched, analysts saw that the lightest chicks at incubating were an aftereffect of maternal maturing. On the other hand, a proportion of generally speaking development inside the principal month subsequent to incubating uncovered that chicks destined to more seasoned dads had the most exceedingly awful by and large development. As such, as guys age, their capacity to deliver posterity that are feasible and of top notch reduces. These discoveries lead researchers to reason that the predominant component of senescence in the flying creature species is change based maturing of germline DNA. Moreover, it appears that the decrease in posterity improvement connected to fatherly maturi ng is comparable in scale to that connected to maternal maturing. Strangely, when discoveries were contrasted and that of human examinations comparable examples were watched, extending worry for the ongoing pattern of postponed parenthood in both genders. In future, Brian Preston and his partners wish to have the option to distinguish and evaluate the conceptive expense related with male maturing in a seemingly perpetual animal varieties. In their latest work, distributed in Nature Communications, they found that, in addition to the fact that males appeared less ready to create posterity effectively as they matured, they likewise seemed to deliver posterity that were of naturally lower quality. Maybe most shockingly, these decreases in posterity quality were of a comparative size to those subsequent from maternal maturing. Examples saw in people are in accordance with the discoveries in houbara bustards and their translation, with fatherly maturing being connected to unfriendly conceptive results, various hereditary maladies, and some psychological issue. The proof is starting to collect that postponing parenthood until later life can conceivably have negative ramifications for the offspring of both more seasoned people. After all, no one wants to browse through a website that responds slow, is difficult to read and does not provide the information the visitor is looking for.In order to make your website instrumental in increasing the conversion rate, it is important to follow some steps that can help you tick the boxes of a good web design. Here are the steps to improve conversions through web design:Step 1. Pay attention to the usabilityThe first thing that you will need to take care of to ensure that visitors can be converted into buyers is to create a web design that is highly usable and accessible. To ensure that your website has a high usability factor, you will need to ask yourself and some of your customers whether it is user-friendly and intuitive or not. A user forms an opinion about the usability of the site within the first few seconds he/she spends on it. The following are some factors that may help you improve the usability of your web design:High speed The responsiveness of the web design must be quick. If your webpages take a long time to load or if your drop down menus are hard to open, then this could turn away the visitors within seconds.Hierarchical order Make sure you offer things in such an order that your customers can move from one block of information to another without having to think. The hierarchy of your website should be very obvious and intuitive so that every visitors would spend least amount of time to get to his/her target.Readability Another factor that contributes to the overall usability is the readability of the content. Make sure it is legible, easy to understand and highly informative.Step 2. Pay attention to web design aestheticsThe next step that you need to follow in order to increase conversion rate is to pay sufficient attention to the aesthetics of your web design. You must remember that your site is the communication channel between you and your consumers. The welcome, the stay and the departure of the visitors on the website must be pleasant in order to make them come back again. Some factors that can help you create an aesthetically pleasing website include the colors used, the contrast offered, the images placed and the use of white space, etc. The following tips will help you work on the aesthetic design with ease:Using directional cues. Directional cues are the intuitive hints and subtle things that lead visitors from one point or block of inf ormation to another, in the most obvious and natural way. First time website visitors may often be clueless about where to click, what to do next and which information to read first. As a designer or website owner, it is your responsibility to lead them in the right direction. Hierarchical structure plays an important part here which means that you can use hierarchical of size and content to create a natural flow of user experience. This means that the most important information can be of the maximum size, followed by the less important one in the second largest size and so on. Some directional cues that you can use include arrows and pointers.Using encapsulation. Encapsulation is a method through which you can capture the eye of the visitor and make it move into the direction of what you want it to see. Simply put, encapsulation creates a tunnel vision effect that makes you look at what is inside the tunnel rather than on its boundaries or outside. This helps to prevent the eye of the visitors on your website from getting distracted and makes users focus on what is most important. But while following this method, one must be subtle and not aggressive. Using dynamic shapes or borders around the information that you want consumers to view is a subtle tip to use this effect to your benefit. For example, if there are certain blocks of information on your webpage but you wish to divert the attention of the visitors to a certain block, then you can put it inside a well-defined box.Using contrast and color. Colors can have an immediate emotional connect with your visitors and play a highly important role in improving conversions. For example, the color orange is considered as one of the colors which generate feelings of positivity and can work well on a web page. Some other colors that belong to this category are greens and blues. But the main trick lies in using different colors in the correct contrast to one another. It is very important that the background color and the color of the text are selected in such a way that the text is readable. In order to come up with the correct contrast, you will have to experiment and try different colors in combination with one another. While some colors that may not look good together otherwise could work brilliantly on your website.Using whitespace. Another very important aspect of an aesthetic web design is the correct usage of whitespace. A lot of web designers fail to understand its importance and may be afraid to let any blank space be visible. But white space can prove useful to uplift the aesthetic design and look of the website since it can be used to create a distinction between the various blocks of data or information. Correct use of white space can focus the attention of visitors to what is important and can help important information stand out properly. But at the same time it is important to understand that uncontrolled use of blank space can be a web design killer. One must balance the text as well as the imagery in the right way to help visitors spot what they are looking for. It can improve readability, create a balanced view and provide for an excellent customer experience.Using placement and copy design. You can also make the use copy design as well as correct placement of CTA to improve the overall conversion rate. A call-to-action statement or CTA is one of the most important parts of any website or web design, and it must be placed on the page in such a way that visitors can easily spot it and click on it. Its right placement and layout can help create a much more powerful as well as descriptive key. Call-To-Action statement must fulfill two main concepts: 1) the statement must be short and brief and 2) it must describe clearly what is going to happen when someone clicks on it. The best way to place and design it is by breaking up the copy into two parts-primary and secondary. The secondary copy must support the primary, and both must be highly effective.Step 3 . Pay attention to SEOAnother thing that can help you raise your conversion rates, traffic and profits is paying attention to the SEO. Of course, creating compelling and informative content is very important for all websites but what puts your site high up on the search engine rankings is the SEO that you incorporate or use. Spend enough time getting to know the principles of SEO and how you can use certain keywords, etc. to result in better traffic to your website. If SEO is improved, the number of people visiting your website will shoot up, and that leads to a chance of better sales as well. Whether you are a small business or a large one, the kind of content and information you provide on the webpages is highly instrumental in making an impression on potential customers.Step 4. Make way for better communicationAnother very important aspect or factor that can contribute to improving the overall conversions is how interactive the website or webpage functions. Having a conversation- centric design can directly impact and influence the conversions, and when such a design is incorporated, you give a chance to the consumers to give their opinion and take actions. It is important to remember that you will have to nudge customers or visitors yourself so that they can click on buttons that matter. Some ways to make way for better communication on your website are given as follows:Use large font sizes and font types for the main headings so that the user attention can be diverted to them. Make them bold and focused.Maintain and use a hierarchy of font sizes and appearance so as to divert the attention of the users first to what is important and then to the second most important thing and so on.Avoid making the page too cluttered and provide users the option to ‘buy’, ‘search’, and ‘click’ often to maintain the conversations.Make use of buttons like social links, sign-up forms, navigation buttons etc. and place them in such a way that the visitors can easil y click on them and make use of them to contact you or communicate with you.WEB DESIGN MISTAKES KILLING CONVERSATION RATESBesides following the above-given steps or tips, it is also important to avoid making some common web design mistakes that could totally be killing your conversion rates. It hardly takes visitors a few seconds to get turned off by a website and press the cross button. Thus, it is important to keep certain things in mind and avoid making mistakes that could prove too costly. The following are the main web design mistakes that could be hampering your profits:Not testing The biggest mistake you could but should not be making is not testing your website on a regular basis. Regular testing makes way for improvements, removing bugs and maintaining the top quality design. So make sure you get the web design tested and checked every few weeks to avoid some major problems with speed and efficiency.Too many distractions Make sure there aren’t too many distractions on t he website and the eye of the visitors doesn’t wander away from what is important. Create a simple and clutter-free design which doesn’t make the user get confused about which direction to go in. Remove unnecessary links, pointless information and inappropriate images from your website to eliminate the distractions as much as possible.Putting call-to-action where visitors can’t spot it As mentioned above, the call-to-action statement is one of the most important statements and it is important to place it where it would be easy to spot. Make it bold but use it subtly so that it doesn’t seem forced or over highlighted. Not doing so and merging it with the other content is also a big web design mistake that people tend to make.Making text and content mistakes No matter how small-scaled your business is and how little information you have to offer to your visitors, it is important that each and every word you say is readable, correct, and effective. Making text and content mis takes like grammatical errors, punctuation errors, using inappropriate words, etc. can put off visitors and may harm your conversion rates greatly.Trying to be too cool While it is fair that you speak well about your products, brand or services offered, flowing a little too much could seem slightly off-place. Avoid sounding too cool and breezy and keep the language and tone formal. Be friendly, but not over-familiar and make sure you don’t make the mistake of sounding obnoxious. The last thing visitors want to experience on your website is an overconfident supplier.

The World War Was A Threat Of Nuclear War - 1576 Words

What where the reasons for the ‘thaw’ in superpower relations in 1970s? The II World War was followed by redistribution of power, which was essentially non-European (Brzezinski, 1986:11). The United States, already with a position of global superpower and The Soviet Union, dominating the world with its size and ideologically and historically endeavoured to this position. According to Brzezinski ideological rivalry was, indeed one of the reasons for the competition, however he stresses that, after all, it was ‘expressed predominantly through the extension of power and influence over territory and people and through the acquisition of military might designed to intimidate or contain the opponent’(Brzezinski,1986:11). Richard Nixon’s perception of the United States in national and international context differed from his predecessors. As a politician he did not see his country as a global leader, more as a ‘normal’ state (Westad, 2007:195). American involvement in international conflicts (especially war in Vietnam, presence in Western Europe or constant disagreement with the Soviet Union on Middle East), according to him, was a source of disorder in general policy of the country. Engagement with ‘peripheral issues’ led to negligence of home affairs and troubles. Nixon ‘inherited’ war in Vietnam from Kennedy and Johnson, but perceived it as a mistake and a distraction from more pressuring problems. Also, it was a big obstacle in normalisation of relations with the Soviet Union. This is one of the reasons why both Nixon and Kissinger wanted to open relations with China, as an instrument in pressuring Vietnamese to negotiate the settlement, but partly to show the dramatic front movement in foreign policy to show that they are not crippled and paralysed by war in Vietnam. Relationship with China and U.S.S.R. was in his perception a safe way to guarantee safe exit of American forces from Indochina. Soviets, from the other side, were cautious and afraid of emerging

Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie as a Tragedy Essay

Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie as a Tragedy The Glass Menagerie has, of course, been labelled as many different types of play, for one, a tragedy. At first glance it is clear that audiences today may, indeed, class it as such. However, if, looking at the traditional definition of the classification tragedy, one can more easily assess whether or not the Glass Menagerie fits under this title. To do this I will be using the views of Aristotle, the Greek philosopher, who first defined the word tragedy and in his views, a tragedy contained certain, distinctive characteristics. His work was written in between 384 and 222 BC, and his views were taken on by some of the more traditional†¦show more content†¦Laura, whose situation appears to be most serious, is crippled so she is physically disabled, but the shyness this causes also leads her to become psychologically malfunctioned. These peoples situations are, indeed, very serious. Aristotle then goes on to argue that a tragedy must excite the emotions of pity and fear. Again, I would indicate that this does occur throughout the play. Even though we sometimes laugh at Amanda, Williams himself puts forward that there is as much to love and pity which reminds us that her situation could, indeed, happen to anyone. Toms world is filled with ideas of escape, mainly through adventure and war, but he is unaware of the horrendous World War that is impending. We fear that we too, longing for adventure and change, may be on the edge of the unknown. We do, also, pity Tom somewhat, as we understand his desire to be released from his overbearing mothers grip, and the burden of his family. In Lauras case we do, indeed, feel great pity for her. We are aware that she has the potential to be beautiful, as suggested in the quotation a fragile, unearthly prettiness has come out and yet we know that it will not be lasting. Her hopes and dreams will be ruined; not only by Jims d esertion, and also that she is physically disabled. We pity her and fear that her situation could indeed, happen to us. Chapter Two Review Of Literature - 1584 Words

Chapter Two: Review of Literature Teachers in the United States are facing a new challenge. According to Capps (2007), at the time of the 2000 census, there were 3 million foreign born children in the United States and one fifth of the students in public schools were children of immigrants. This trend is expected to continue and even increase. In 2004, approximately 11% of the student population was identified as English language learners. This is a 60% increase from 1994 (Conger, 2008). Immigration has always been part of the United States, however, the new influx of immigrants brings with it new challenges. In the past there was not a lot of emphasis on the pre-kindergarten years. Today , experts recognize the first five years of a child’s life as a time for enormous growth of linguistic, conceptual, and social competence (Pikulski, 2005). Yesli-Dagil (2011) found that the majority of research on literacy skills has been done with non-English language student populations or populations that had English language learners involved but there was no differentiation between the two groups. This research was then generalized to the English language student population, not taking into account that they may learn differently. The early years of a child’s life have a profound influence on that child’s language and vocabulary development, which greatly influences school success (Pikulski Templeton, 2004) Often times English language families do not have the resources in their homes to help develop literacy. Even though English language students go through many of the same stages of literacy development as their English speaking counterparts, it is typically in their native language and in turn they are exposed to less English language and literacy before entering schools. I walked to U.S. Customs in Chicago with my Jordanian passport clutched in my hand and my backpack over my shoulder. The man at the Customs window was dressed in a sophisticated black suit with badges all over his top pocket and a .45 caliber pistol. When I handed him my passport, he began questioning me as if I were from another planet. The first question made me feel unwelcome: â€Å"Why are you coming here?† Can’t I visit other countries? In Jordan they would say, â€Å"Welcome to Jordan.† He continued questioning me, almost to the point where I wanted to catch a return flight home. After a long conversation, he wrote a code on my Customs paper. As I walked away, I felt relieved. However, after my third step, a security guard with a night stick and a gun approached me and asked for my passport. From this moment on, I knew I would be treated differently from other arrivals. We will write a custom essay sample on Two Worlds or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page He read my code and ordered me to follow him. Everyone else seemed to be having a great time, talking and laughing. How ever, when they glanced at me they would get a funny look. The security officers led me to an  office where they emptied my bags, and, as before, questioned me about everything. They asked why I had nail clippers. I wondered if it was a joke. Why does anyone have nail clippers? But since I am from Jordan maybe he thought we had other uses for them. I gave the only answer that made sense: â€Å"To cut my nails.† Finally after a long time, I was released. At last I saw the Culver sign and  headed toward it. I boarded the bus and thought about home and how I was  going to face big differences in culture and habits. I felt excited to come here, but  realizing I would have to struggle made me less eager. I worried that the airport would be an indicator of my entire experience. The Customs and security personnel treated me like a terrorist, as if I was the reason for their sons and daughters dying in Iraq or in the Twin Towers. Although I grew up thousands of miles from New York City, after September 11th, my life changed. My brother told me that America no longer trusted Middle Easterners. The Middle East was in a state of chaos,  hatred, and tyranny. Even though Jordan was the calmest country in the area, Jordanians were becoming frustrated with what was happening in their region. This is when events started to reel out of control. Numerous terrorist acts harmed the reputation of the country and the region. As a Catholic in a predominantly  Islamic state, I am familiar with Muslim beliefs. True Muslims do not believe in terrorism; in fact, they oppose it. Just  because some terrorists are Muslims does not mean the majority supports this, yet anyone who is a Muslim is likely to be labeled a terrorist. As my father used to say, â€Å"Do not judge people by their looks – judge them by their actions.† Coming to the U.S. for my high school education has been an experience of a lifetime, and although I struggled at first with some students calling me a terrorist, I stood up for myself and  explained the nature of the conflict. Since most of my peers were not familiar with what was going on, I do not blame them. Now, I feel I am a mature person, and I like to put myself in the position of a judge presiding over a trial between the U.S. and the Middle East. I have a clear advantage in this case because I have learned the beliefs of both cultures and would be able to resolve the conflict  fairly. If more people from the Middle East were able to take the risk and do what I have done by coming to the U.S. to study, these issues would be much closer to resolution. Two Worlds free essay sample I anxiously wait as the number seven button turns to red and the elevator doors close and take me into a place where two worlds will intertwine. The duffle bags filled with clothing and toiletry items for my brother become cumbersome in my trembling hands and gradually slip to my fingertips, but somehow remain dangling. As I exit the elevator, I immediately inhale the ever-present aroma of hospital supplies and mediocre, cafeteria food. I sense a feeling of pain and suffering as I stride past the occupied rooms of ill patients and become saddened as I hear their shrill cries of misery. My heart throbs more rapidly, because I know that a few doors down, my brother, Timothy, similarly lies confined in a white-walled, sterile room attached to IV’s that continually pump antibiotics throughout his vulnerable body. I enter the anteroom where I put on a hospital gown, face mask, shoe covers, and gloves so as to reduce his exposure to infectious diseases. We will write a custom essay sample on Two Worlds or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page When I am fully gowned up, I enter his room and see him resting in his new adjustable bed, recovering from his second bone marrow transplant. In the summer before my Junior year of high school, the hospital became my second home. This room serves as the new dining room emitting the smell of my mother’s home cooked chicken pot pie and overflowing with piles of my summer Biology assignments and English summer reading books. As the summer passes and the school year arrives, the opportunity to spend time at the hospital becomes infrequent and I am determined to make time for regular visits. What appears to be a dilemma between visiting my brother and pursuing my academic endeavors turns into a balancing act of my two commitments. As I encourage him, his strength grows, and in turn he encourages me to continue pursuing my academic goals. These visits are no longer viewed as a sacrifice, but are becoming a time when both of us are gaining tremendous boldness through obstacles that appear insurmountable. I scan this all too familiar room and observe that as the weeks pass, not only have the once dull walls transformed into a collage of brightly colored drawings imparting hope and brightness to room 750, but also I too am beginning to adapt to the new struggles of my rigorous schedule. Although the first bone marrow transplant failed and could have potentially taken his life, fortunately, Timothy was given a second chance when my sister became his donor. While he recuperates, my parents, siblings, and I sit by his bedside day in and day out offering our support every step of the way. As the new marrow travels throughout his entire body in an effort to destroy the old, Timothy endures excruciating pain but feels comfort by our presence. This new hope flows through me and I too am rejuvenated. The fatigue I feel in my own body and mind subsides allowing me to remain focused on keeping my academic standards high. I found an inner strength that enabled me to balanc e the love for my brother along with maintaining high academic standards. During my brother’s 104 day hospitalization, I watch his spirit begin to revive, enabling my own inner man to be strengthened. My responsibilities begin to grow as I now have to take on the role as the eldest brother in Timothy’s absence. I willingly provide a strong shoulder for my younger brother to depend on and an even stronger shoulder for my sister to cry on during such an emotional time. What could have become a greater distress has further developed my personal growth. I saw this experience as an opportunity for personal improvement and by observing Timothy I learned that through hard work and dedication, success can be achieved. I know that I am capable of attaining greater levels of achievements through great adversities.

Bio Ethical Principles in Psychiatric Treatment essays

Bio Ethical Principles in Psychiatric Treatment essays The medical professional in today's' global society has a great need of a firm grounding in the principles of Bioethics. . The vast expanse of ethical, spiritual and cultural beliefs from one country to another are inclusive of many variations of beliefs and principles that must be considered by the medical professional and indeed all that are employed within the medical field. Free Apple’s Share Increases Essay

Free Apple’s Share Increases Essay Apple’s Share Increases 1. Executive Summary: This paper attempts to review the Apple Inc. corporate operational strategies that have influenced it success in the marketplace, making it one of the leading Computer hardware manufacturers. It is focuses on Apples product development strategy, the iPod in particular. It also looks at how Apple can successfully apply Information Technology Metrics to enhance its business operations. It also evaluates whether there grounds exist to raise issues of Ethics should Apple decide to sell customer Information to other business and what would be likely repercussions in the event customer information ends up on an anonymous website. Moreover, the benefits iTunes- the on-line music business added to Apples balance sheet are scrutinized and how Apple can use environmental scanning to gather business intelligence. This paper further uses the porters five forces model to analyze Apples buyer power and supplier power, identifying which of the five forces Apple addressed in introducing the iPhone. 2. Introduction/Thesis: Apple Inc is an American multinational Corporation which designs and manufactures Consumer electronics and software products. The products include Macintosh computers, iPods and the iPhone, Pro line laptops (Mac Book Pro) and desktops (Mac Pro), consumer line laptops (Mac Book) and desktops (iMac), servers (Xserve), Apple TV, software, Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server operating systems. The Corporation was started by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronaly Wayne. This was in the year 1976.The Corporation was initially called Apple Computer Inc but the word Computer was dropped reflecting the dynamic expansionism mood at the company at the time. Apple has about 35000 employees spread across the world. It had sales revenues amounting to US$ 32.48 billion in its fiscal year ending September 2009. One of the milestones of the Corporation was the selling of 6.9 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2008 (Marr, 2006). Apple s Corporate Mission is to provide exposure to emerging companies in order to achieve success in the Financial Markets and to help its clients, brokers, investors, and employees realize their true potential through mutual growth. The Corporations Vision combines the expertise of its Management Team with the industry knowledge and expertise of the managers of each individual company. The primary focus is to strengthen the operating structure of the entity and to lay the foundation for increased growth and profitability. Apple Corporation partners with a number of other companies including Intel. This partnership resulted in the production of Intel based Mac computers in the year 2006. Apple Corporation exhibits a strong corporate culture that influence performance of duties within the organization, this culture drives the corporate affairs of the company, its consumers, suppliers and stakeholders. Apple has also cultivated a culture of acceptance of the Corporations products all over the world. The culture cultivated by the Apple Corporation tends to facilitate the control of the Corporation as it establishes the standards and conduct of employees within the Corporation (Philip, 2009). Apple Company has a variety of business lines, the most successful being SBU with direct consumer products in the market. Apple also provides SBUs in line with its objectives and goals to the consumer. Its SBU has become an important commodity in the market. The Apple Advantage SBU as it is commonly known is dedicated to offering sales, technical and product management resources. Apple line SBU supports a complete line of Apple products and also provides access to hardware, software and service offerings. The SBU ensures professional audio/video installations, multimedia development, desktop publishing and key aspects of the healthcare system. The Apple base SBU recruits additional vendor business partners to ensure resellers have access to the products they need to deliver the latest most profitable Apple based solutions (Jerry, 2008). The Apple SBU makes it possible for the distribution of a full range of Apple products including desktops, notebooks, storage, iPods, accessories and software. The company ensures the efficiency of this strategy through training of the people and institutions that need to use the facility. The current products of the Apple Company in more detailed analysis include the Mac and its accessories which are the Macmini, iMac ,Mac Pro, workstation, Macbook, MacBook Pro and Mac Book Air. The iPod include the iPod Classic iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle and iPod Touch. The Apple TV is a good innovation from the Apple Company. It is a set top video device intended to bridge the sale of content from iTunes. The device syncs either a wifi or a wired network, with ones computers iTunes library (Earnshawon, 2009). These are the products that Apple churns out to stay ahead of its competitors. It also rigorously advertises in line with constant consumer education and enlightment. This clearly shows the effo rt that has been made by the Corporation in improving its performance. 3. The Questions: Q. 1 Apple Inc. as is known today would have long been resigned to history. iPods came around when Apple badly needed a product that would boost its image in a big way. That is exactly what iPod did. Apple was on a shaky financial ground, it had not released a major product for sometime (Earnshawon, 2009). Q. 2 Efficiency IT metric gauges the performance of the IT system itself including throughput, speed, and availability. Notwithstanding what is appraised, how it is appraised, and whether it is for the purposes of efficiency or effectiveness, there should be benchmarks. Benchmarks are pedestal outputs, comparing those outcomes to optimal system performance (standard values), and identifying steps and procedures that would improve system performance. Efficiency IT metrics focus on technology and include; throughput, transaction speed, system availability, Information Accuracy, web traffic and response time. The best mix of throughput transaction speed, system availability, information accuracy, web traffic and response time will definitely improve Apples business operation (Philip, 2009). Q. 3 Effectiveness IT metrics are trained on the organizations goals, strategies, and objectives and incorporate: Utilization, Consumer contentment, Conversion rates and Financial. Quality training of Employees will enable Apple to guarantee higher customer satisfaction (Philip, 2009). Q. 4 Information given to Apple by customers is privileged information protected by the laws regulating the handling and management of private and confidential information. For Apple to provide this information to a third party it would need at least a written letter of authorization from the owner of the information. If it fails to secure permission from the customer, it may face a civil suit from the client suing for breach of confidentiality (Jerry, 2008). Q. 5 Apple business would automatically suffer a decline. Customers will get worried about their information getting into the wrong hands. This will lead to many of them looking for alternative technology service providers, who appear to have more stringent mechanisms for safeguarding and protecting customer information (Asce, Library 2003). Q. 6 A competitive advantage is a tangible or intangible benefit a firm enjoys, which at the same time is complex or impractical for other competing firms in the same industry to acquire or enjoy. These advantages invariably include the company brand, quality care of customers, structural costs, and the brands patent. Whatever the advantage, for it to be regarded as sustainable it must both be proprietary and unique (Marr, 2006). iTunes provided Apple with a very unique and inimitable product. This definitely gave it a competitive edge in the market. No other company had come up with the product. It was a first. Apple consequently reaped maximum benefit and although other companys like Microsoft tried to release their own versions, Apples iTunes dominate the Market. Q. 7 Environmental monitoring is the attainment and scrutiny of happenings and developments in the settings outside of an organization. Organizations monitor their competitors through situational monitoring (Philip, 2009). Apple Inc. operates in competition with other companies. Thus it can only thrive when its in a competitive setting. For Apple to recognize its strengths and weaknesses, it invariably has to study its competitors. In the analysis of its competitors, the Corporation will most likely discover opportunities for and threats to its existence from its technological background (Marr, 2006). A SWOT analysis methodically analyses each of these dynamics and the approach that mirrors the most appropriate match between them. Q. 8 Buyer power is heightened when buyers have a number of choices of whom (suppliers) to procure from and deflated when their options are restricted (Earnshawon, 2009). Apple has lower buyer power for its products, especially the iPod. There arent many substitutes in the market. The ones that exist cannot match the quality and design superiority of the Apple products. Supplier power is heightened when buyers hardly have any alternatives of whom to procure from and diminished when their options are innumerable (Earnshawon, 2009). Apple is in a position of strength as far as the Supplier power is concerned. Apple products are differentiated. Consumers identify with these products and every one want to have the Apples iPod. Q. 9 Organizations in general adopt one of Porters three standard approaches when moving into a new market. These standard approaches incorporate; broad cost leadership, broad differentiation and focused strategy (Asce, Library 2003). Apple adopted two strategies; the broad cost leadership and broad differentiation. These strategies enabled it to create a competitive advantage over other plays in the market. Q. 10 Apple addressed the Buyer power and Supplier power. The buyer power for its products, especially the iPod is low. This guarantees that it can sell as many as the consumers wish to buy. There arent many substitutes in the market. The ones that exist cannot match the quality and design superiority of the Apple products. On the hand Apples Supplier power is very much heightened. It is the company that sells the original product from the original idea. The other competing companies are only copying from Apple. This ascertains market for the products. Conclusion: Apple Company has achieved a rare fit in the technology arena; it has been flexible in its management procedure, thus allowing creativity and innovation (Philip, 2009). As it continues to grow it is continually consolidating its strengths and opportunities while endeavoring to reduce both its internal and external weaknesses and threats, respectively (Marr, 2006).
